Career Review/Planning
Living as we do in an ever-changing world it is essential to chart a path through the maze. Careers need to be planned but the pace of change and the fact that many of the traditional career pathways have disappeared makes this a lifetime's challenge. Career planning is no longer a case of identifying what sort of job you want in 5 or 10 years time. Much may have changed in that time scale and jobs may have disappeared.
Individuals tend to 'put off' thoughts about career planning because it is difficult and are often prone to only recognise this as an issue when a crisis occurs. Although there are no easy answers career planning is an activity, which does need to be undertaken systematically.
Career planning is about scanning the environment to understand the nature of the changes and making decisions about how to deal with these circumstances. It is also about setting objectives and then determining a strategy to follow, which will enable goals to be achieved.
Our career review planning services are offered on a one-to-one basis or we are able to design and run tailored development centres/career review workshops for our clients. Often our work will involve:
- a diagnostic phase to identify career anchors and career interests and an insight into preferred ways of working
- providing an opportunity for structured self reflection
- providing an opportunity for 360º feedback using a variety of instruments including the NHS Leadership Qualities Framework
- the use of case studies and exercises (in career review workshops) to help individuals to gain further insight
- developing a strategy and action plan
- helping individuals to refresh their job search skills including CV preparation, and interviewing and presentation techniques (there is an opportunity to undertake mock interviews with a panel and to receive video feedback, if requested)
