Holding this Award in Team Leading demonstrates that you have undertaken and become qualified in the basic principles of team leadership skills and knowledge. It aims to give practising or potential team leaders the foundation for their formal development in this role.

The Award in Team Leading is a management level 2 programme. This Award will be for you if you are currently team leading and feel you need further help, confidence and guidance about your role or you are newly appointed to leading a team. Typically you have had no formal managerial/supervisory training or qualifications, although you may be professionally qualified.
This programme is designed to commence with an introduction, which will provide participants with information and knowledge about the course and the Institute of Leadership and Management (the awarding body). In total the programme is designed over three separate workshops (usually three weeks between workshops) with some work based and distance learning activities to undertake between workshops. The total study period for this programme is 26 hours. Candidates need to attend all three workshops.
The programme is divided into four modules (or units) and they include the following:
Developing yourself as a team leader
Motivating the work team
Workplace communications
Leading your work team
You be assessed on each of the four modules (units) via a Reflective Review. These Reflective Reviews ask a series of questions (usually between four and seven) that will require you to answer using real work examples and leadership practices.
The BDC provides participants with group support and should the occasion arise individual and telephone support for the programme.
Candidates need to be practicing Team Leaders or looking towards a career development opportunity.
